One of our testing techniques especially designed to meet the needs of the mining, construction and ropeways industries is RopeScan.Ropescan is patented and owned by Lloyds Beal Ltd.

 

Ropescan is an electronic device for NDT of wire ropes. It was initially developed by the British Coal Board to aid the inspection of locked-coil wire ropes in coalmines. 

 

By detecting distortions to the magnetic field generated by its head, RopeScan can guide the examiner to those parts of the rope where there are broken wires, or can assist in diagnosing the type of defect present. Regular assessments of working ropes can be used to predict failure modes and life expectancy.

Hallo Wieslaw, I think, this is a misunderstanding. The effect of decreasing electric conductivity with mechanical stress, which we are discussing, has absolutely nothing to do with piezoelectricity. It is a basic, wellknown effect, and it is large in simple standard conductors like metals.
